permanent sterilization - vasectomy

aka “getting snipped”

Vasectomies are a great way for men to take control of their own fertility and share the responsibility of family planning. From a feminist standpoint, it’s all about breaking away from the idea that birth control should fall on women’s shoulders alone. It’s a simple, permanent, and super effective option for anyone who’s sure they don’t want more kids or kids at all. Plus, it doesn’t involve hormones or invasive procedures for women, which helps make reproductive responsibility a more balanced thing between partners. It’s a way of saying, "we’re both in this together."

A vasectomy is a minor surgical procedure that offers men a permanent birth control option. During the procedure, the doctor cuts, seals, or blocks the vas deferens—the tubes that carry sperm from the testicles to the urethra. This stops sperm from mixing with semen during ejaculation, making pregnancy impossible. It’s typically done under local anesthesia and is quick, usually lasting 15-30 minutes.

Recovery is pretty straightforward, with most men back to normal activities in just a few days. Vasectomies are highly effective, and they don’t affect hormones, sexual function, or libido. They are a reliable, low-maintenance choice, just make sure your partner goes for their followup appointment to ensure it worked. While reversals are sometimes possible, they aren’t always successful, so it’s considered a permanent decision.
